GENERAL INFORMATION
Lake Chatuge Region Map: Lake Chatuge is centrally located between the States of Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee in the Southern Appalachian Mountains.
Lake Chatuge is divided in half by the Georgia/North Carolina border and is nestled between the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia to the South and the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina to the North.
Lake Chatuge is located in the heart of the mountains and is approximately 1900 feet above sea level.
Lake Chatuge is bordered by the City of Hayesville, Clay County, North Carolina on the Northern boundary and by the City of Hiawassee (Georgia spelling), Towns County, Georgia, on the Southern boundary.
Lake Chatuge is also easily accessible as it is located only 90 miles North of Atlanta, and the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Lake Chatuge is almost equal distant between the State lines of Tennessee (approximately 30 miles to the West) and South Carolina (approximately 40 miles to the East). The region was formerly known as the Hiwassee (North Carolina spelling) River Basin (consisting of Apalachia, Blue Ridge, Chatuge, Hiwassee, Nottley, and Ocoee Dams) and is a part of the Tennessee River Valley Watershed Region. The region’s vast mountain ranges, large sprawling lakes, and beautiful scenery of the area make the region an outdoor sportsman’s paradise.
The focus of this site are things to see and do in the quad-state area surrounding Lake Chatuge, primarily Eastern Tennessee, Western North Carolina and South Carolina, and Northern Georgia.
AMATEUR RADIO
In February 2005, a two-meter VHF repeater was relocated to the Lake Chatuge area (Hayesville, NC) from Murphy, NC. The N4WCO repeater was graciously provided by the Triode Amateur Radio Club and the site is hosted by the Lake Chatuge Information Guide. The output frequency is 146.865 MHz and the input frequency is 147.065 MHz (up or + .600), no tone is currently active, but may eventually be placed into operation (151.4 Hz, the tone widely in use throughout the local area). The repeater is OPEN to all licensed amateur operators. Net Meetings are every Monday night at 8pm. The purpose of the repeater is to support public service as well as local amateur operators in addition to those visiting the area or traveling through the area. The repeater provides excellent coverage throughout the Lake Chatuge Basin area for portables operating on low power. Please contact the Webmaster if you are interested in offering public service, repeater logistical, technical or financial support.
